Adding fuel to the educational fire is the purpose of Pitsco Education’s
2009 STEM catalog. In their mailboxes, teachers can find dozens of activities to ignite student interest in STEM subjects.
Two big items take center stage in this newest edition of the catalog. Given the popularity of the Catapult and Trebuchet Kits, a larger trebuchet model was designed for teachers to use in demonstrations. Almost two feet tall, the Large Trebuchet Demonstrator can sling up to a 10-gram projectile using 1,000 grams of counterweight. It features an optional wheeled base similar to those used on medieval trebuchets.
And the Big Oz Water Rocket Kit isn’t just bigger than other water rockets – it includes a 12-inch parachute for gentle landings and fewer repairs.
“Our goal is to introduce new, exciting hands-on activities for the classroom,” said Catalog Marketing Project Coordinator Megan Barth. “We are constantly looking for ways to provide our customers with the most up-to-date and relevant curriculum and products, whether through a catalog or on our Web site.”
Engineering takes a front seat with the Pitsco Roller Coaster Track, the Engineering Academy, and teacher guides for
Aerospace and
TETRIX™ R/C Robotics Engineering.
- Using the Roller Coaster Track, students can design and test roller coasters while applying physics.
- The Engineering Academy provides entire courses using classic activities combined with curriculum, tools, equipment, teacher professional development, and assessments.
- The teacher guides provide activities for straw, air, water, and solid-fuel rockets and the TETRIX™ Robotic Design System.
The catalog’s 65 pages are divided into the areas of robotics, sustainable energy, physical science, aerospace, dragsters, structures, engineering, and math.
